The American Ringtail was started in 1999 by Susan Manley and her cat Solomon (right) in the San Francisco area of Northern California. After 5 years of studying the genetics and capturing their amazing tail, the breed is ready for the world. The American Ringtail is making it's debut in the spring of 2004!

This web site was made to discover, document and promote this beautiful and unique new breed. Here you will find updates of Solomon and his kittens, and the chronicle of our journey towards recognition as a breed in the major registries of the world.

What is an American Ringtail?

  • American Ringtails carry their tails up over their backs and in a curl, much like a Husky.
  • Their tails appear very muscular, have full range of motion and the bones are not fused. This trait is not a skeletal or muscular deformity.
  • They have an alert, athletic look, back legs longer then front, love to climb and have excellent balance.

Newsflash
The American Ringtail was given Registration Only status in TICA in July 2005. Although not eligable for competition in the show ring, this does allow us to track our breed through TICA registrations for the future!
